Industrial
Process Research Products makes many special products for industrial manufacturing.
Industrial lapping processes are indicated and necessary for improving the quality and finish of surfaces that have been machined or ground in prior operations. Typically differential gears, precision steel, and ceramic balls are always lapped.
Slurries for Lapping Differential Gears
Hardened steel spiral bevel and hypoid gears are lapped on unique Gleason or Oerlikon machines. We supply oil bases and complete abrasive slurries for this operation. These products can also be supplied as emulsifiable slurries for easy cleaning.
Lapping with Suspension Oils
Sometimes it is preferable to lap high precision and EMQ balls, as well as silicon nitride balls, using oil-based slurry. This slurry is made by either adding precision alumina or diamond powder to Process Research Products PC oil. Please refer to the PC oil technical data sheet for full details of the process.
Lapping Manufacture of Steel Balls
Process Research developed the water based process for lapping 52/100 chrome and stainless steel balls, this process is appropriate for lapping between cast iron lapping plates. Our product recommendation for this operation is FLOW-ON 11 in conjunction with ABRADELAP abrasive lapping slurry. The process is usually performed by recirculating FLOW-ON 11 diluted with 20 parts of water and recirculated in a central system. To achieve the desired stock removal rate, the ABRADELAP is drip-fed onto the balls as they enter the lapping plates. Please refer to our technical data sheets for full details.
Ultrafine Honing/Noritake Lapping
This is a high-precision finishing process using Bakelite lapping wheels. For this process we recommend our fully synthetic BAKELAP. The coolant is diluted with water and recirculated in a central system. Please refer to our technical data sheets for full details of the process.
